| Giancarlo Anello is an Associate professor of Interculturalism and Institutional Pluralism at the University of Parma. After graduating in law from the University of Palermo, he obtained a PhD in canon and ecclesiastical law from the University of Rome «La Sapienza» in 2003. From 2005 to 2014, he was a researcher at the Department of Law at the University of Parma, where he taught “Ecclesiastical Law”, “Intercultural Law and History of Religions” and “European Legal Roots”. Since 2007, he has been studying Arabic language and culture in Syria, Oman, Tunisia and Jordan. He has participated in international conferences and seminars at the Universities of Ghent, Konstanz, Hofstra, Hamline, Harvard, Rabat, St Andrews, Cornell, the Max Planck Institute, PISAI in Rome and Qom. He is a European KAICIID fellow for 2021. He is the author of books and scientific articles including Organizzazione confessionale, culture e Costituzione (2007); Tradizioni di giustizia e stato di diritto (2011); Teologia linguistica e diritto laico (2015); Re-Emerging Equality. Rivista annuale di storia del riformismo religioso in età contemporanea, dal titolo Modernizzazione e riformismi nell’Islam (1870-1949). Since 2023, he has been a member of the Board of the Islam section of the National Doctorate in Religious Studies (DREST). Since 2024, he has been the Rector's delegate for international relations with the Middle East and India and coordinator for the University of Parma of the CAM (Arab-Mediterranean Campus) project. |
