On Monday, April 27, at 9:30 a.m., the seminar "Crimini ambientali, mafie e rifiuti. Una prospettiva multidisciplinare" will be held at the Aula dei Filosofi of the University of Parma (via Università 12). The initiative, organised by CSEIA (Centre for Studies in European and International Affairs) as part of its collaboration with the University's Permanent Observatory on Legality, aims to provide an in-depth, interdisciplinary analysis of the relationship between environmental crime, mafia organisations, and the illegal management of the waste cycle, bringing together sociological, historical, and criminal law perspectives. The discussion will focus on the economic and political factors that have contributed to the spread of these phenomena, highlighting the connections between criminal networks and the legal economy. Particular attention will be paid to the consequences of these illegal activities, which affect the environment, public health, local communities, and the relationship of trust between citizens and institutions.
The analysis will be enriched by reference to emblematic cases from recent Italian history, from the so-called "Navi dei veleni" to the Terra dei Fuochi, through to the more recent dynamics that have emerged in the Lombardy region.
Speakers will include Thomas Aureliani (University of Milan), Andrea Carnì (University of Milan), and Demetrio Villani (University of Rome Tor Vergata). The seminar will be introduced by Emanuele Castelli and moderated by Laura Pineschi.
The event is open to the public. The proceedings will be conducted in Italian.
